Medical Air Technology Ltd has undertaken the design, construction, installation and validation of four 'turnkey' CL3 Laboratory Suites Mater Dei Hospital. This prestigious new acute hospital is also used as a teaching facility by the neighbouring University of Malta and is a flagship facility for the country's healthcare.
The facility, which is based in Block 1 and 2, Level 12 covers an area of approximately 160m2 It will enable research in a safe and contained environment. The facility is designed in accordance with the latest ACDP (Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens) guidelines. It incorporates four CL3 Laboratories, complete with lobbies, each laboratory has a dedicated air handling unit, and are operating at balanced negative pressures with the supply and extract air via HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arrestor) filters.
The entire suite was finished in welded sheet vinyl, but the walls and ceilings were finished in GRP to ensure that an easy clean, durable, and importantly safe, leak proof structure was guaranteed. The ability to seal off the suite for gaseous sterilisation was incorporated into the design as was a 'man down' alarm, CCTV System and a link into the Hospital BMS (Building Management System).

Medical Air Technology has been designing and engineering 'clean air' systems to provide protection in potentially hazardous and sensitive activities in manufacturing and healthcare for 30 years.
The company was founded in the 1980's, and has provided an extensive range of Ultra Clean Air Systems to both the NHS and the Private Sector. Today the MAT 'Ultraflow' is considered an integral part of the modern operating theatre and essential for the prevention of air borne contamination
During the 1990's MAT's experience and air engineering skills were applied to the wider needs of the medical profession, and a strategic decision was made to extend its design and build facilities beyond operating theatres into other specialised healthcare projects, such as clean rooms, aseptic suites, containment laboratories and general laboratory upgrading.
